Course Content

Year 1: Foundational Courses

  • Introduction to Computer Science (3 Credits): Overview of computing, history, and fundamental concepts.
  • Programming Basics (Python) (3 Credits): Introduction to programming logic and problem-solving techniques.
  • Educational Foundations (2 Credits): Understanding the principles of teaching and learning.
  • Mathematics for Computing (3 Credits): Linear algebra, calculus, and discrete mathematics relevant to computing.

Year 2: Core Skills Development

  • Data Structures and Algorithms (3 Credits): Analysis and implementation of algorithms.
  • Object-Oriented Programming (Java) (3 Credits): Advanced programming concepts.
  • Instructional Design and Technology (3 Credits): Using technology to enhance education delivery.
  • Database Management Systems (3 Credits): Fundamentals of data storage and retrieval.

Year 3: Advanced Computing and Pedagogy

  • Artificial Intelligence in Education (3 Credits): Leveraging AI tools for teaching.
  • Web Development (3 Credits): HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks.
  • Curriculum Development in Computer Science Education (3 Credits): Crafting syllabi for computer science subjects.

Year 4: Specialization and Practical Experience

  • Educational Technology Capstone Project (6 Credits): A comprehensive project merging computing and teaching.
  • Internship (6 Credits): A 6-month placement in schools or IT firms.
  • Cloud Computing and Cybersecurity (3 Credits): Latest trends in cloud technologies and IT security.
  • Teaching Practicum (4 Credits): Hands-on experience in classrooms.

Entry Requirements

To gain admission into the Computer Science Education program, prospective students must meet the following criteria:

  1. UTME Candidates:

  • Minimum of five (5) O’Level credits, including Mathematics, English, Physics, and any other two relevant science subjects.
  • A satisfactory score in the UTME with subjects including Mathematics, Physics, English, and one other science subject.
  1. Direct Entry Candidates:

  • A diploma or NCE in Computer Science Education or a related field with at least a merit.
  • At least two A-Level passes in Mathematics and Physics.

 

Fees and Funding

The fees for the Computer Science Education program are competitive and structured to ensure affordability:

  • Tuition Fees: ₦50,000 per semester.
  • Laboratory Fees: ₦10,000 per semester.
  • Other Fees (e.g., library, ICT): ₦5,000 per semester.
