B.A.(Ed.) Creative Arts Education

Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education offers a vibrant and dynamic Bachelor of Arts in Education (B.A. Ed.) in Creative Arts Education, designed to cultivate the next generation of innovative educators and creative thinkers. This program blends the study of the arts with pedagogical skills, preparing students to inspire, educate, and lead in schools, cultural institutions, and creative industries.

Course Structure

The B.A. (Ed.) Creative Arts Education program spans four years, structured to provide a balance between practical artistic skills, educational theory, and classroom experience. Students engage in hands-on learning through workshops, studio projects, and field experiences. Key components include:

  • Core Education Courses: Introduction to Education, Educational Psychology, Curriculum Studies, and Teaching Methods.

  • Creative Arts Specialization: Visual Arts, Performing Arts (Music, Drama, Dance), Art History, and Digital Arts.

  • Practical Teaching Experience: Supervised teaching practice in primary and secondary schools, fostering real-world classroom management skills.

  • Research and Projects: Final-year projects allow students to explore innovative teaching methods or artistic endeavors in education.

This structure ensures students develop a strong foundation in both artistic expression and educational expertise, making graduates versatile professionals in multiple fields.

Entry Requirements

Admission into the B.A. (Ed.) Creative Arts Education program is competitive, reflecting the university’s high academic standards. Prospective students are expected to meet the following criteria:

  • SSCE/WAEC/GCE Requirements: Minimum of 5 credits in relevant subjects including English Language, Fine Arts/Visual Arts, and other core subjects.

  • UTME Requirement: Must choose Creative Arts Education as a preferred course in the JAMB UTME.

  • Direct Entry Applicants: HND, NCE, or equivalent qualifications in relevant creative or educational fields are eligible for entry into 200 Level.

  • Portfolio/Interview: Shortlisted candidates may be required to present a portfolio of work or attend an interview to assess creative potential and teaching aptitude.
