B.Ed. in Adult and Continuing Education

At Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education (AIFCE), the B.Ed. in Adult and Continuing Education is designed for individuals passionate about lifelong learning and the transformative power of education beyond the traditional classroom. Course Structure

The B.Ed. in Adult and Continuing Education combines theory, practical training, and research-based learning to prepare graduates for a dynamic career in adult education. The curriculum is structured to cover core areas, including:

  • Foundations of Adult Education: Understanding adult learning theories, psychology, and pedagogy.

  • Curriculum Development for Adult Learners: Designing programs tailored to adult learners in formal and informal settings.

  • Educational Research and Evaluation: Techniques for assessing learning outcomes and program effectiveness.

  • Community Development and Lifelong Learning: Strategies for empowering communities through education.

The program spans four years, blending classroom instruction with practical field experiences, ensuring students graduate as competent, reflective, and innovative adult educators.

Entry Requirements

Prospective students are required to meet the following criteria for admission into the B.Ed. Adult and Continuing Education program:

  • SSCE/WAEC/GCE: Minimum of five credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, and credits in relevant subjects such as Social Studies, Economics, or Government.

  • Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME): Candidates must achieve the required AIFCE UTME score and select Adult and Continuing Education as a preferred course.

  • Post-UTME Screening: Shortlisted candidates are invited for the university’s post-UTME assessment.

  • Direct Entry: Candidates with National Diploma (ND) or Advanced Level (A-Level) qualifications may gain admission directly into the 200-level, subject to departmental approval.
