SENATOR JOY EMODI IS FIRST PRO-CHANCELLOR OF ALVAN IKOKU UNIVERSITY

In a historic decision, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Senator Dr. Joy Emodi, CON as the first Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of the Governing Council of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri. Other members of the pioneer Governing Council of the University are Professor Danladi Hakini, Barrister Tolu Babaleye, Hon. Dr. Obiageli Ajoku and Hon. Chief Harry Okongwu. With her appointment, Senator Emodi goes into the history books as the first Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of the Governing Council of the University following its upgrade from a College of Education.

Senator Joy Emodi, a distinguished politician and educationist, brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Her academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Geography Education from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1979), LLB in Law (1985), and professional legal training at the Nigeria Law School, Lagos.

Sen. Emodi’s impressive career spans various fields, including education, law, and public service. She served as an Education Officer in the old Anambra State Schools Board from 1983 to 1986 and was the Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Development Authority from 1994 to 1995. Senator Emodi was a member of the 1994/1995 Constitutional Conference and in 1995 represented Nigeria at the Third African-American Summit in Senegal and the World Women Conference in Beijing, China. In 2005, Senator Emodi was elected to represent the Anambra North Senatorial District. During her tenure in the Red Chamber, Senator Emodi chaired the Senate Committee on Education and was a member of several other committees.
